Oh, so much to talk about, so much to discuss. So where do we begin?

With the phoney war finally over, and the General Election upon us, the election and its aftermath is now the only thing occupying the minds of politicians and political anoraks. However it is by no means the only thing that should interest us.

Well, we have the UK result, and indeed Boris carried it off. Such a huge result for him, and for the Conservative Party. When you saw the maps on the screen, and what were once red Labour strongholds completely overrun by the blue of the Tories who took over most of those seats, it was quite amazing. Of course, I stayed up till after four in the morning looking at it on TV. No matter what you say about Boris Johnson, he put his heart and soul into the campaign, and he won.

There are 15 days to the UK general election, and as much of a feast as it is for political anoraks like Insider, and as much as he will enjoy binge-watching the coverage on BBC and Channel 4, it is at the front of his mind that the Irish General Election is itself, only months away.

Last Saturday, like many of our readers, I put aside to watch two main items on television : 1) the rugby quarter-final, Ireland versus the All Blacks, and 2) the proceedings in Westminster when Boris Johnson would endeavour to bring in his settlement with Europe.
